Millions of in-copyright books, including those of foreign authors and publishers, will be part of the proposed class action settlement between Google, the Author’s Guild, and the Association of American Publishers.

If you own the copyright for a work that was scanned and added to the Google Library Project electronic database without your permission, you are automatically included in the proposed settlement, unless you opt out. The deadline for opting out was initially May 5, with the final hearing to be held on June 11, 2009. However, these dates have been extended to September 4, 2009, and October 7, 2009, respectively.

To receive cash payments from Google for use of your in-copyright work, you must submit your claim on or before January 5, 2010.
