The University Libraries provides access to thousands of eBooks via various e-book database collections. Below are the most popular collections.

ebrary Academic Complete  provides access to eBooks in many subject areas, including the social sciences, arts and humanities, law, technology and life science.

EBSCO eBook Collection provides access to eBooks in many subject areas, including the social sciences, arts and humanities, law, technology and life science.

Safari Tech Books Online provides access to eBooks on all aspects of computing, programming, and information technology subjects, from publishers such as O’Reilly, Sam Publishing, New Riders, and Adobe.

SpringerLINK provides access to eBooks and articles in various disciplines.  It is particularly useful for accessing eBooks relating to STEM topics.


Creative Commons (CC) encourages openness and sharing of knowledge. Publish your original content using a CC license, instead of relying on the default “all rights reserved” copyright. Through a choice of six different types of licenses, CC offers a middle ground between public domain status (open to any use or purpose without permission or payment) and full copyright.

Streaming Video

Audio and video content are available in many of the library’s databases.  However, below are the databases with large collections of streaming media:

Films on Demand: a streaming Multidisciplinary video collection, with films spanning the Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Business, Economics and Health from contributors like PBS, BBC, TED Talks, and Films for the Humanities.

Academic Video: cross-searchable platform to search all our Alexander Street Press streaming video collections from one platform. Search for videos on American History, Dance, Ethnic Studies, Ethnography, Opera and Theatre.

Ambrose Video Collection: A collection of streaming video titles covering a wide range of subjects: American and European History; the cultures and achievements of American Indian, Black, Chinese, Hispanic, and Jewish peoples; Women’s achievements; Religion; and the Arts. Also included are the BBC Shakespeare plays.

Audio Drama: The L.A. Theatre Works Collection: Contains 300 dramatic works in streaming audio from the L.A. Theatre Works. The plays include significant dramatic literature of the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries.

Black Studies in Video (North America): This database features award-winning documentaries, newsreels, interviews and archival footage surveying the evolution of black culture in the United States.

Counseling and Therapy in Video:Counseling and Therapy in Video is an online collection of video available for the study of counseling, social work, psychotherapy, psychology, and psychiatric counseling.

Education in Videoan international collection of streaming video developed specifically for training and developing teachers. The collection includes hundreds of in-classroom videos on key teaching topics and themes from respected education publishers worldwide.

Music Online: allows users cross search music databases published by Alexander Street Press. These databases include: African American Music Reference, American Song, Classical Music Library, Classical Music Reference Library, Classical Scores Library, Contemporary World Music, Dance in Video, The Garland Encyclopedia of World Music Online, and  Opera in Video.

Media Education Foundation Video Collection: Streaming video collection consisting of documentary films that inspire critical thinking about the social, political, and cultural impact of American mass media, especially in relation to gender, race, class, health, and consumerism.

New World Cinema: New World Cinema: Independent Features and Shorts, 1990–Present, an online streaming video collection, delivers approximately 200 full-length feature films from leading independent distributors such as Kino Lorber, First Run Features, Film Movement, MK2, and the Global Films Initiative, along with some fifty award-winning shorts.

Naxos Music Library: A comprehensive collection of classical music available online. It includes the complete Naxos, Marco Polo, and Da Capo catalogues of over 170,000 tracks. Included are Classical music, Historical recordings, Jazz, World, Folk, and Chinese music.

Oral History Online: Indexes English language oral histories housed in repositories around the world. Does not contain full-text but provides options to locate items and link to full-text transcripts or audio/video content on web-sites when available.
