Becoming Familiar With Library of Congress

Information for Visitors

• Hours, directions, maps, floor plans, and more.

Information for Researchers

• Find out about research orientations, reader registration, online and card catalogs, how to request materials and other Library policies.
• Study Shelves at the Library of Congress. TheLibrary of Congress has a limited number of individual shelves that researchers can use to have books charged for a long term use. Researchers must come in to the Library at least once per week in order to have these shelves reserved.
• Hold/Reserve Services

Reader Registration Cards

• Information on how to obtain a Library of Congress Reader Identification card, which is required for members of the public who wish to use the Library's public reading rooms, the Computer Catalog Center, and Copyright Office.
• For faculty that are planning to taking a class to the Library of Congress please contact your liaison librarian in order to help make the neccessary plans for reader registration.

Library of Congress Research Orientation Classes

• These classes are designed as a basic introduction for researchers who wish to use the Library of Congress collections and resources.

Library of Congress Online Catalogs

• Search the Library of Congress catalogs for books, journals, films, recordings, prints, photographs, and other materials.

Library of Congress Research Centers

• Overviews and links to the Library of Congress Research Centers.

Portals to the World

• Links to Electronic Resources from around the World.

Databases and E-Resources at the Library of Congress

• A list and description of all of the databases and electronic resources available at the Library of Congress.

Collection Guides and Bibliographies

• Library of Congress bibliographies, research guides, and finding aids.
