The Arlington Campus Library’s Assistive Technology Room Is Equipped With Software To Help Patrons With Disabilities Conduct Library Research
Workstation 1:
Computer equipped with Dragon NaturallySpeaking, a voice recognition software that converts the spoken word to text.
Targeted patrons: Expressive writing, learning, and physical disabilities.Workstation 2:
Computer equipped with JAWS Screen Reader software that reads aloud all information displayed on the monitor for patrons who are visually impaired or blind. This computer is also equipped with Arkenstone’s OPEN BOOK reading software that combines optical character recognition and speech output. Patrons with vision and reading disabilities can scan printed materials that can then be read aloud by the computer.
Targeted patrons: Blind, low vision, and reading disabilities.Workstation 3:
Visualtek is a closed-circuit video monitor that enlarges printed material.
Targeted patrons: Low vision.
