Media Screening Request

This form will allow you to request a classroom screening or listening of a media item:

  • The film will be placed on hold in the Gateway Library in the Johnson Center for pick up the day of the screening or listening.
  • The media item you are requesting to screen should be part of the Mason collections. If you need a media item that is not part of the Mason collections, you may suggest a purchase or borrow the item through the WRLC catalog.

Remember these policies:

  • The Gateway Library does not host large group screenings or listenings.  Rooms for class screenings can be arranged through the Office of Events Management.
  • You are responsible for following University policies, meeting the accessibility needs of your students, and abiding by copyright law in your classroom. You may receive help with these issues from the Assistive Technology Initiative and/or the Copyright Office.
  • If you have any questions, contact Denise Klasen-Lopez.

Form instructions:

  • Please submit your media screening request at least 48 hours in advance.
  • If you need to submit a media screening request for more than one date, list each time and date you need the item in the time and date field.
  • If you need to submit a media screening request for more than fifteen (15) separate titles, you will need to submit the form more than one time.
  • If you need to submit media screen requests for both classroom and non-classroom uses, please submit the form twice.
"Classroom use" describes uses in which all attendees of a screening will be participants in an official Mason-offered course. It does not include club or student events. "Classroom use" does not require public performance rights, whereas public events (including club or student events) typically do. While we have public performance rights for many items in our holdings, this is not always the case. If you select "no" for this question, we will check to see if we have public performance rights and get back to you as soon as possible.
In order to have a TA or student pick up the film, you will need to have them register as a proxy for you. If Classroom Technologies or the Office of Events Management will be picking up the film, the staff member or student workers representing that unit will need to bring a form authorizing them to pick up the film signed by their respective Operations Supervisor.
If you are a TA or adjunct instructor, you may have a shorter loan period for reserve items than faculty members. To avoid escalated fines during or immediately after the screening, you will need to bring your contract to the library, so that a note can be added to your account which will instruct circulation staff to check out media you have requested for media screenings for up to 24 hours. This note will be valid for one semester.
