Library Passport Program / Supporting the Libraries

The Libraries offer the Library Passport Program to provide basic library services for Mason alums and non-affliated patrons.

Library Passport Program: Online Resources Privileges
In-Library Use Only

  • Access to online public access catalogs
  • Access to networked electronic sources
  • Access to selected George Mason University databases via the world wide web

Limitations

Fee-based online searching, Washington Research Library Consortium loans, interlibrary loan, or borrowing privileges at George Mason University Law School are not available through the George Mason University Library Passport Program. Please contact your local public library for additional reference and information services.

Remote access to online resources

Most of the electronic resources (databases, e-journals and e-books) are governed by license agreements which limit use to current George Mason University students, faculty, staff, and on-site users of George Mason University Libraries. When we purchase access to an online database, e-journal or e-book, we sign a license agreement with the particular vendor. These various licenses require us to restrict off-campus, remote access to current Mason students, faculty and staff.

Many public library systems provide remote access to online databases, e-journals and e-books.  Information about local public libraries providing remote access to online sources with your public library card is available here.

Supporting the Libraries

The George Mason University Libraries serve an ever expanding student body as well as a growing number of academic programs and research-active faculty. George Mason's Libraries are also used by individuals not affiliated with the University. Given our convenient location in a densely populated suburban area, we are considered and are indeed used as a publicly accessible community resource serving northern Virginia's research needs. Contributions from individual and corporate friends have, over the years, helped the Libraries strengthen their collections and improve library technologies and physical facilities. If you would like to further support the George Mason University Libraries through a monetary donation or gift of books or other library materials, visit the George Mason University Libraries website or call:
