We are pleased to announce that the Center for History and New Media's Exploring and Collecting History Online project, or ECHO, is the "future" part of the George Mason University Libraries' Millionth Volume. ![]() The ECHO project uses the Internet to collect and present the recent history of science and technology. In addition to providing a comprehensive, centralized guide to history of science and technology Web sites and assistance to scholars who would like to use the Internet to record history, ECHO functions as a repository for the memories and experiences of scientists, engineers, doctors, technologists, and the general public on a wide variety of topics. The Libraries will be partnering with the Center for History and New Media to archive these born-digital primary sources, to preserve and make the collection available for generations to come. The concept of archiving information originally created in a digital format with no print or hard copy equivalent signifies the future direction of many library collections.
