LIBRARY MATERIALS:
Industry Standards

Standards are documents that recommend or stipulate minimum or optimum levels of performance and quality of goods, services or operation. They are formulated by:

  • private companies 
  • technical associations and professional societies (such as the IEEE) 
  • government agencies 
  • national or international standards agencies
University Libraries has access to standards from the following organizations: Standards Resources on the Internet: 
  • ANSI - American National Standards Institute. The primary organization for administering and coordinating the U.S. private sector voluntary standardization system.
  • DODSSP - The Department of Defense Single Stock Point for Military Specifications, Standards and Related Publications.
  • ILI Standards Database - A database with access to U.S. and international standards such as ANSI, ASTM, ISO, and IEEE. Provides an online ordering system and refers to identical standards. 
  • NIST - National Institute of Standards and Technology. A U.S. agency working to promote economy by developing technology, measurements, and standards. 
  • NSSN - National Standards System Network. A database provided by ANSI for searching U.S. and international standards by keyword, organization, and number. Includes ordering information. 
  • WSSN - World Standards Services Network, a network of publicly accessible World Wide Web servers of standards organizations around the world.
