Technical Reports
Overview
Technical reports show the
results of research and development projects. Various groups compile the
reports, including university departments, institutes, private industries,
and government agencies.
Technical reports may provide
updates on studies in progress, or present the final results of completed
projects; but they are generally produced on request to meet a specific
need. Sponsors use technical reports as a means of keeping their grantees
accountable. Both government groups and private organizations sponsor such
projects.
GMU is a member of the federal
depository library program, which provides some technical reports. But
since no agency coordinates the publication and dissemination of technical
reports, they can be very difficult to identify and locate.
The Fenwick
Library has select technical reports in print format as well as in
microfiche. Search the Library Catalog
for specific tiles, or check for reports in the Selected Research in Microfiche
(SRIM) cabinet in the Government Documents Room.
Technical Reports Links
Many technical reports are
available on the Web. NTIS (below) is the primary resource for identifying
reports of government-sponsored research, but many research institutions
and agencies make reports available on their Web sites. Some of these sites
give only abstracts of the reports.
