The Libraries' Geospatial Data Sets
United States
- ArcUSA: A basemap for the world at a scale of 1:3 million.
It contains data for 240 countries with 235,000 geographic features (i.e.
political boundaries, roads and drainage etc) and attributes.
- Census CD 1980: 1980 Census data down to Census tract.
- Census CD + Maps (1990): 1990 Census data down to block group level.
- Digital Chart of the World (DCW): A basemap of the world at a scale
of 1:1 million from the U.S. Defense Mapping Agency Operational Navigation
Chart.
- Historical United States County (HUSCO) Boundary Files CD-ROM: Contains
ArcView shapefile format county boundary files for the U.S. from 1790-1990
(1999). Includes county and state names as well as FIPS code.
- Inside ArcView: A data set for tutorial of ArcView software.
- LandView IV: EPA data for air, harzardous waste, superfund, and toxic release
waste facilties and 1990 census data.
- Wessex Street 7.0: The Census Bureau's 1998 Tiger files in ArcView
format.
- Wessex Profiler: 1990 census data down to block group level (STF 1A, 3A.
STF 3B) in ArcView format.
Others: The libraries has a large collection of CD-ROMs such as Tiger/Line
Files (1994, 1997, and 1998) distributed by the Federal Depository library Program
that can be used with GIS. Please contact

Virginia Geospatial data
- Digital Data of Fairfax County CD-ROM (3 CDs, 2000): Contains
Fairfax County geographic data including property, zoning, contour, building,
hydro, sidewalk outlines, street centerlines, parking lots, and utility data.
- Digital Data of Loudoun County CD-ROM (vol 2, number 1): Contains
Loudoun County's geographic data including 1:2400 scale parcels, soils, floodplains,
drainage, water bodies, airport noise contours, urban growth area, voting
districts, zoning, and political boundaries data; 1:50000 scale geology data;
1:12000 scale street centerline data.
