Database Announcement

George Mason University Libraries wishes to bring to the attention of all students and faculty an alternative method of accessing information and checking out books via a collection of nearly 15,000 e-Books added to the Libraries' own collection from netLibrary™.  eBooks are full-text electronic versions of published books that library users can search, borrow, read, and return over the Internet.  These eBooks do not require any special handheld eBook reader; therefore, users can have full access from their own personal computers.

eBook titles are available to Mason's library users not only from any computer on campus, but also from their personal computers via the Internet.  Users can search the entire eBook collection for authors, titles, or keyword-combinations.  If users choose to download the book, they can also search within individual eBooks by keywords and phrases.  eBooks are available for checkout and are automatically checked back into our netLibrary™ collection when the checkout period expires, making the eBook available for another user.  No more worries about late fees with eBooks!

University Libraries' eBook titles include a core collection of academic disciplines in the sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities, with an extensive collection of computer science and technology books.  We are currently looking at the possibility of adding several thousand newly-published titles to the eBook collection.

Once an account is setup, users can have full access to the collection from any personal computer.

To setup an account with netLibrary:  From the University Libraries homepage (http://library.gmu.edu) click on the "eBooks" link under "Reference" and then click on the netLibrary™ link.  Alternatively, users may either click the "Databases" link or and either go to the "Alphabetical List" or enter the word, "netlibrary" in the search window to enter our "Database Wizard."  The resulting page will present users with information on how to set up their accounts either on or off campus.  Lastly, you may also use the direct URL at: http://library.gmu.edu/resources/netlibrary.

Be sure to use the Group-Wide Login if you do not have a personal account set-up. Access to all of the resources available through the University Libraries' netLibrary™ collection is restricted to faculty, staff and students of George Mason University and will require access through a proxy server when used off campus. (See http://magik.gmu.edu/lso/proxy.html for more information.)
