Major Chemistry Indexes & Databases

American Chemical Society (ACS) Journals
(Coverage varies)
Includes full-text from 34 American Chemical Society publications, from the broad coverage journals such as the Journal of the American Chemical Society to specialist journals such as Environmental Science and Technology and Energy and Fuels. GMU does not have access to Chemical and Engineering News. (Journals Indexed)

Beilstein Crossfire
(available only in Fenwick Library Reference Room)
One of the most comprehensive sources in organic chemistry. Collections of structures, properties, and references to the literature in organic, organometallic and inorganic chemistry. (Journals Indexed)

ScienceDirect (Elsevier)
(Coverage varies)
Provides online access (searching and browsing) to over 1,100 journals published by Elsevier and its partners. Journals are available for most scientific, technical, and medical disciplines, including chemistry and chemical engineering. (Journals Indexed)

SciFinder Scholar
(1947-present)
Provides access to Chemical Abstracts online. Users can search by author, research topic, company/organization name, or chemical name/reaction. Users can also search by drawing chemical structures, browse tables of contents, get related information through citations, retrieve related web sites, and analyze results to find the most published author/organization in a research field. Links to full-text articles and patents are provided when available. Available only in Fenwick and Prince William Library Reference Rooms. (Journals Indexed)

Springer LINK
(Coverage varies)
Provides online access (searching and browsing) to over 480 journals and two book series (Lecture Notes in Computer Science and Topics in Current Chemistry) published by Springer and its partners. LINK is divided into eleven "Online Libraries" by subject, including Chemical Sciences. (Journals Indexed)

Other Chemistry Related Indexes & Databases

Annual Reviews
(1984-current)
Provides comprehensive, timely reviews of the literature on a variety of topics. Includes the Biological and Medical Sciences Suite, the Physical Sciences Suite, and the Social Sciences Suite. Examples inlcude the Annual Review of Biochemistry and the Annual Review of Physical Chemistry. (Journals Indexed)

Biological Abstracts
(1980-current)
Biological Abstracts, also know as BIOSIS, is the world's most comprehensive reference database in the life sciences. It covers articles from over 7,000 journals, as well as original research reports and reviews, letters, and technical data reports. Topics covered include those related to chemistry, such as biochemistry and pharmacology.

Environmental Sciences & Pollution Management
(1981-current)
Abstracts and citations are drawn from over 4,000 scientific journals and thousands of other sources including conference proceedings, reports, monographs, books and government publications. Chemistry related topics include: hazardous substances, toxicology, and various forms of pollution. (Journals Indexed)

Highwire Press
(Coverage varies)
Includes full-text journals from the fields of science, technology and medicine. Chemistry related journals cover biochemistry and medicinal chemistry. GMU does not have access to all journals, but many articles are free after 6 months to a year after publication. (Journals Indexed)

MEDLINE
(1966-current)
Produced by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE is recognized as the premier source of coverage for biomedical literature. MEDLINE encompasses information from Index Medicus, Index to Dental Literature, and International Nursing.

Safety Science and Risk
(1981-current)
Comprehensive information across the fields of public health, safety, and industrial hygiene. Cited studies are geared to help researchers identify, evaluate, and eliminate or control risks and hazards from environmental and occupational situations. (Journals Indexed)

TOXLINE
(1994-current)
Access to information in all areas of toxicology, including chemicals and pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and environmental pollutants. This version of TOXLINE does not contain information from Chemical Abstracts, BIOSIS, or International Pharmaceutical Abstracts.

General Science Indexes & Databases

Applied Science and Technology Index
(1983-current)
Indexes international and English-language periodicals covering engineering, mathematics, physics, and computer technology. Includes articles, interviews, meetings, conferences, exhibitions, new product reviews, announcements, and more. (Journals Indexed)

Science Citation Index Expanded
(1980-current)
