Responsibilities and Objectives

Special Collections & Archives (SC&A) is responsible for: retaining and preserving the historical archives of George Mason University; collecting, managing, and systematically disposing of (according to Commonwealth guidelines) university records; collecting, processing, and preserving primary research materials for students, faculty, and scholars worldwide; managing the format and submission of university theses and dissertations; and creating digitized collections for access through the Internet.

SC&A's primary objective is to meet the departmental responsibilities in the most efficient and effective means commensurate with the overall aims of the Libraries and the university.

George Mason University Archives

George Mason University Archives contains the official, permanent papers and documents of the university. They are necessary for much of the day-to-day working of the university as well as representing an historical record.

George Mason University Records Management

The Records Manager is available to assist university departments with the retention and disposition of all of their temporary University Records.

George Mason University Dissertation & Thesis Services

The University Dissertation & Thesis Services program exists to assist George Mason University graduate students at all stages of the dissertation, thesis, or project process.
