George Mason University

Statistical Research Services

Responsibilities and Objectives

The University Libraries of George Mason support both quantitative and qualitative research with two services:  Statistical Research Services (SRS) and Qualitative Research Services (QRS).  Appropriate staff are able to discuss general data collection methods and analysis theory for both quantitative and qualititative research.  There is no charge for service consultations.

With quantitative research assistance, SRS provides consultation on research design, questionnaire construction, data manipulation, data mining, and data analysis (including multiple and logistic regression) among other analytic techniques.

The aptly named Qualitative Research Services is available for consultation with data collection and analysis of data that is more subjective and not easily coded into numbers.  QRS primarily provides instruction and support for the NVivo qualitative analysis software package.

SRS shares Room C-GIS on the ground floor of Fenwick Library’s C Wing (between Reference and Government Documents) with the Geographical Information Systems Center. The computers in this laboratory provide in-library access to appropriate software packages during normal business hours.  Follow this link for more about the quantitative and qualitative resources available for use in this room.

The Statistical Consulting Center (SCC) in George Mason University’s Department of Statistics also provides statistical consulting in support of research and grant submissions. Patrons may be referred to either SCC or SRS or both depending on their research needs.
