How to Find Media in the Classic Catalog

Searching for Video Recordings using our classic catalog

Mason Libraries has a large video collection available in various formats: DVD, VHS, and streaming. These steps will show you how to limit your catalog searches to only videos.

  1. Click the ‘Books and more’ tab on the libraries homepage at library.gmu.edu.

  2. Click the "classic catalog" link. You will find it just above the search box.

  3. Enter your search terms in the search box under ‘Find This.’

  4. Select ‘videorecording’ from the drop down menu under ‘Quick Limit.’

  5. Define or refine your search terms using the drop down menu under ‘Find Results In.’ Then click the ‘search’ button.

  6. Your results will include all available video formats. Most DVDs and VHS tapes will be on the second floor of the Gateway Library in the Johnson Center, but some may be stored at other library locations.

Mason Libraries has a large audio collection available in various formats: CD, LP Record, and streaming. These steps will show you how to limit your catalog searches to only videos.

  1. Click the ‘Books and more’ tab on the libraries homepage at library.gmu.edu.

  2. Click the "classic catalog" link. You will find it just above the search box.

  3. Click the "Set Limits" button at the bottom right of the screen.

  4. Using the "Medium" limiter, scroll to "Sound Recording."

  5. Click the "Set Limits" button at the bottom middle of the screen to return to the classic catalog search.

  6. You will know that you have set search limits because there will be a notice at the top of classic catalog window which says "Search limits are in effect!"

  7. Enter your search terms in the search box under ‘Find This.’

  8. Define or refine your search terms using the drop down menu under ‘Find Results In.' Then click the ‘search ‘ button.
