Gateway Teaching and Learning Services supports undergraduates in general education courses, as well as graduates, faculty, and community members familiarizing themselves with the Mason Libraries. Services offered through the Gateway Library include:

  • Reference and Research Services

The Gateway Library offers drop-in reference and research services, especially for undergraduate research.
  • Classroom Instruction

Classroom Instruction provided by the Gateway Teaching and Learning staff facilitates the development of research and critical thinking skills.
  • Workshops by Request

In addition to by-request workshops, Gateway offers regular workshops on the Zotero citation management software.
  • Distance Education Services

The Gateway Library offers help with Mason's online library resources, consultations for distance education faculty, and more.
  • Media Services

The Gateway Library offers one-on-one help accessing our extensive DVD and VHS collection, assistance with media reserves, media screenings, help with streaming media resources, and more.

Staff also actively develop mutually beneficial relationships with university educational centers that contribute to the academic success of undergraduate students. A special focus of this group is to identify and work closely with appropriate programs and departments across the university, to contribute to the “Students as Scholars” university-wide program, and to weave information literacy into the undergraduate curriculum.
