Katherine A. Perry graduated with two degrees from the University of California at Los Angeles, a B.A. in Political Science. (1972) and a Master of Library and Information Sciences (1974).
Kathy began her career as an Information Specialist (1974-1981), researching urban issues at Public Technology, Inc., a nonprofit public interest group serving cities and counties throughout the United States. She then spent a year (1981-82) living on the Greek island of Sifnos with her family. Kathy began her work with George Mason University in 1983 and continued in several different capacities until her retirement in 2015: GMU Libraries (1983-84), the University Development Office (1984-1992), the University Provost’s Office (1992-1994), and from 1994 – until her retirement, she served as the Director of VIVA (The Virtual Library of Virginia). In that capacity, she worked with librarians and staff at all public and private nonprofit colleges and universities in Virginia, as well as with international colleagues.
Kathy enjoys traveling extensively and is active in many community organizations, including the League of Women Voters. One major surprise of retirement is that, despite reading as many books as possible, her “To Read List” only seems to grow.
