Special Borrowers Application

Mason Alumni and members of the general public interested in joining the fee-based Passport Program, or members of certain Special Groups interested in activating their borrowing privileges, should fill out the application below. Before visiting Mason Libraries to complete your registration, please wait for an email from us confirming that we've created your account. This process usually takes 24 hours. A photo ID is required to complete your registration.

Library Passport Program Patron Privileges & Service Limits:

  1. Up to ten (10) items total may be borrowed.
  2. Borrowing period is three (3) weeks.
  3. Item(s) may be renewed one (1) time. Exceptions:
    1. Item(s) recalled by the library cannot be renewed
    2. Overdue item(s) cannot be renewed
  4. George Mason University items located at a different campus may be requested through the InterCampus Document Delivery Service.
    1. You must activate an ILLiad account to use this service.
    2. Contact the Interlibrary Loan Office at 703-993-2228 or illloan@gmu.edu to activate your account.
  5. Patrons do not have borrowing privileges for the Antonin Scalia Law School Library, the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC), or Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
  6. Patrons do not have remote access to Mason Libraries’ licensed subscription online resources (e-journals, e-books, databases, etc.). Library Passport Programs may use these resources in the library.
  7. Patrons may utilize George Mason University’s wireless network by following these steps from ITS: https://its.gmu.edu/knowledge-base/guest-wi-fi-self-registration/
  8. Patrons are required to provide government issued picture identification (e.g., driver’s license, military ID) as well as their membership card to borrow items.

 

Library Passport Program Patron Obligations:

  1. Program Fees
    1. Mason Alumni $ 50.00 per year
    2. Non-Affiliated Patron $150.00 per year
  2. Alumni status must be verified before alumni applications are processed. Mason alumni are defined as degree recipients. Certificate holders so not qualify as Mason alumni. If Mason alumni status cannot be verified, the higher fee ($150.00) is required as payment.
  3. Patrons are responsible for payment of any fines and/or replacement fees for late (overdue), damaged, or lost items. Fines and/or fees not recovered within 45 days may be referred to a collection agency. Mason alumni records will be frozen through the University’s Registrar’s Office.
  4. Program Membership cards double as Mason Money cards. Mason Money must be used as payment for any library fees, fines, or printing/copying/scanning. Patrons can add funds to their Mason Money account here: https://services.jsatech.com/login.php?cid=147&cid=147&
  5. Patrons are obliged to provide current contact information to the library Circulation Desk at the time of account creation. Current contact information must be updated with each annual account renewal.
  6. Failure to adhere to Mason Libraries’ policies and procedures may result in termination of this agreement.
I agree to the Library Passport Program fees in addition to the borrowing policies, limits, etc.
